What is Skillshare?

Skillshare is known as an ‘online learning community’ and despite being founded less than a decade ago, the service now hosts over 30,000 online classes.

Skillshare offers both free and premium classes that cover almost everything. So whether you want to learn data science, speak Spanish languages or cook meals to a Michelin-star standard, Skillshare will have a course for you.

Skillshare is not just a video hosting platform. The service encourages tutors and students to engage with either other via a clever ‘groups’ feature, allowing members to provide feedback, ask questions or simply discuss their interests.

Their classes are grouped into four main categories: Creative, Business, Technology and Lifestyle. Within these categories, courses on a variety of subjects are offered, including design illustration, business, technology, photo and film, writing and more.

Many of Skillshare’s classes offer a preview video clip, allowing you to meet your tutor before a class, so you can get a feel of what the class entails, and whether or not it’s right for you.

How much does Skillshare cost?

One of the best things about Skillshare is that it makes many of its online classes available for free over its basic membership, meaning you can learn without having to pay.
If you do want to try its premium version to access all of its classes – plus other perks – you can do so by signing up to its free one month trial. If you don’t want to pay after the trial ends, simply cancel your membership before then.
Note: To benefit from the free trial you’ll have to provide your payment card information.
If you want to continue with Skillshare after the free trial, its premium offering costs $15 USD per month (or £13 GBP for UK members). If you’re in it for the long haul, you can save money by purchasing an annual membership for $99 USD or £84 GBP.
All in all, considering Skillshare’s vast course library and regularly updated content, we consider its monthly cost very reasonable and better value for money than its rivals, Udemy or Eloomi.

Skillshare Premium – Is it worth it?

Skillshare’s basic platform offers over 2,000 online classes and allows access to its free mobile apps. So if you don’t want to pay for Skillshare Premium, its basic offering is still very much worth signing up for.

Yet if you do sign up for Skillshare Premium, you’ll have access to a massive 28,000+ online courses (on top of the free courses). You’ll also be able to access Skillshare’s courses offline – allowing you to save its classes on your tablet or mobile phone, a feature not available with Skillshare Basic.

As a premium member, you can also benefit from a number of discounts from online services. At the time of writing, Premium Skillshare members can get 20% off Shutterstock and SquareSpace premium services.

Skillshare Premium is also ad-free, which is a nice bonus!
