What is finance?

The field of finance represents a different focus than other number crunching jobs, such as accounting. While accounting tracks and manages the day-to-day financial activities of an individual or corporation, finance involves the management of assets and liabilities in order to plan for the future. 

Finance workers tend to also have outgoing, people-oriented personalities, as the job often involves working closely together with others to help them reach their goals. 

Careers in finance

Finance jobs cover a broad range of interests. When you think of careers in finance, you may envision Wall Street hedge fund managers or venture capitalists or investment bankers. But not everyone in finance is a Wall Street titan.

Other common finance careers are real estate and insurance agents, financial planners, investment bankers and corporate CFOs. Although these jobs differ, they all require the ability to work with people and use a lot of know-how to strategize future financial planning.
