What is programming, and what do programmers do?

Programmers write code for software and mobile apps, which makes them an essential part of web development. They also serve a valuable role in software maintenance and troubleshooting existing programs. A good programmer can rewrite code, fix bugs and errors, protect against security threats, and streamline code to function on different systems. Often, programmers work within an IT department, but they also can have more flexibility which allows them to freelance, often working from home or travelling.
